A New Experience at Oh! Mama: Discover the Beauty of Ikebana
We are delighted to introduce a new experience at Oh! Mama: Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement.
Oh! Mama has always been a place where you can experience Japanese culture in a traditional Japanese home in Ikenoue, Tokyo. Along with Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), the traditional matcha tea ceremony, and Nihon Buyo (Traditional Japanese dance), you can now discover another beautiful aspect of Japanese culture through flowers.
Meet Our Ikebana Instructor, Tyutyuan
Our Ikebana experience is led by Tyutyuan, an experienced and trusted instructor who creates beautiful and refined Ikebana works.
With his knowledge and experience, he gently guides you through the process of arranging flowers while helping you discover your own sense of beauty.
It’s Not About Making Flowers Look “Better”
One of the things we love about Ikebana is that it is not simply about making a beautiful arrangement.
As Tyutyuan says, you don’t need to make the flowers look better than they are.
Every flower has its own natural beauty.
Through Ikebana, we learn to look closely, discover that individuality, and respect it.
The finished arrangement is not simply a collection of flowers.
It becomes your flower — a reflection of the way you see and feel.
This is one of the quiet pleasures of Ikebana.
A Quiet Moment with Flowers
In our busy everyday lives, we don’t often have the chance to slow down and really look at a single flower.
Ikebana gives you that opportunity.
Which direction does this branch want to go?
Where is the most beautiful part of this flower?
How can you bring out its natural character?
It is a quiet, creative moment of connecting with nature — and with yourself.
Experience Ikebana at Oh! Mama
We are very happy to welcome Ikebana to our cultural experiences at Oh! Mama.
Whether you are visiting Tokyo or living in Japan, we hope this experience will give you a chance to discover a different side of Japanese culture — one that is quiet, seasonal, and deeply connected to nature.
