An Enduring Connection

Recently, I had the pleasure of welcoming a very special guest to our home once again — my professor from my university days. Although it has been nearly twenty years since I was his student, this was already his third visit to our salon, which has been open for just a little over a year.

Before opening this place, I spent a year working part-time in his laboratory. And even before that, when I was living in Nagoya, he stopped by to see my young son, bringing a teddy bear with him while he was in the city for an academic conference. His quiet kindness has stayed with me ever since.

Even though he continues to teach new students year after year, he remembers his former students with remarkable clarity, down to the smallest details. I truly admire that — though I can’t help hoping he might forget a few things, especially my less-than-perfect grades.

During this visit, he picked up the brush and wrote the character 永 meaning eternity, which is one of the most popular kanji at our salon.

Our calligraphy and tea ceremony experiences take place in a real Japanese home in Ikenoue, a quiet neighborhood just four minutes by local train from Shibuya. Here, away from the bustle of the city, we invite you to pause, reflect, and create memories that quietly endure.
