The Art of the Tokonoma

Even though it’s September, today’s temperature rose above 40°C outside our salon!
Still, September is considered autumn in Japan, so we changed the hanging scroll (kakejiku) in our tokonoma to a seasonal one:
「一簾秋月 (Ichiren no Shugetsu)」 — The autumn moon glimpsed through a bamboo blind.

✨ A small cultural tip for visitors:
The tokonoma is a sacred space for art and seasonal displays. Please do not place luggage or step inside. The only time someone enters is when the host changes the scroll or arranges flowers.

The beauty of the tokonoma is meant to be enjoyed with your eyes✨
