Another Scorcher in Tokyo!
Summer is in full swing here in Tokyo, and the heat is relentless!
The local elementary school has just started its summer vacation, and both kids and adults are finding it tough to be outdoors in this intense heat. Even after the sun sets, the temperature barely lets up.
Today, just before 1 PM, I measured the temperature right outside our salon.
38.6°C — that’s 101.48°F!
No wonder it feels so hot!
Official weather data for Tokyo is recorded inside the Imperial Palace grounds — a vast green space right in the heart of the city. The observation point is located in Kitanomaru Garden, which is open to the public and filled with trees, grass, and water features.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, today’s official high in Tokyo was 35°C (95°F).
But as you can see, temperatures on city streets surrounded by concrete and asphalt can be significantly higher. When you’re out and about, it’s wise to prepare for conditions that may be much hotter than the forecast suggests.
There really is a noticeable difference between the green, shaded park and the heat of the urban jungle!
