We hang the Noren — a traditional Japanese shop curtain — at the gate of our little wooden house.

It’s a simple gesture, but one that holds meaning.
The Noren tells our neighbors and visitors that we’re here, and that we’re ready to welcome you.

Whenever we do it, it marks a small beginning.
