Now Carrying Tenugui from Maruasa!
We are happy to announce that we have started carrying tenugui from Maruasa, a kimono shop in Ikenoue! Our collection includes a variety of designs, from bold and striking patterns that make perfect wall decorations to cute and practical options for everyday use.
A tenugui is a traditional Japanese cloth, literally meaning “hand-wiping cloth.” Made of thin cotton fabric, it measures approximately 34 × 90 cm (13 × 35 inch) , making it larger than a handkerchief and incredibly versatile.
I personally find tenugui to be an essential item, whether in daily life or while traveling. Since it is made of cotton, washing it once makes it even softer, and it absorbs water just like a hand towel. In the past, people used just one tenugui to dry off after a bath!
Because it’s thin, it dries quickly even when wet. On hot days, a damp tenugui is perfect for cooling down sun-heated skin. Its length also allows you to wrap it around your head as a hairband or use it to secure your hair. Additionally, its shape makes it useful for first aid—wrap a tenugui around an ice pack to cool an injury or use it as a substitute for a bandage.
Once you start using a tenugui, you’ll discover just how convenient it is! Why not take one home as a unique Japanese souvenir?
