１．Calligraphy and Matcha Tea Ceremony Experience

Our combined calligraphy and matcha tea ceremony experience includes a simple paper frame for your artwork, a demonstration of the traditional tea ceremony, and some Japanese sweets served with your choice of beverage. This is one of our most popular programs, designed to delight a wide range of guests—from first-time visitors to Japan to seasoned enthusiasts with a deep appreciation for Japanese culture.

The Experience Flow

Guests who wish may begin their experience by putting a jinbei on to protect their clothing from any splashes of ink. The calligraphy session takes place in a traditional shoin-style tatami room, where we provide tables and chairs for your comfort—so there is no need to worry about sitting on the floor.

After a brief introduction to Japanese calligraphy and the writing system, you will prepare your own ink by grinding it on a stone suzuri. This quiet, meditative moment—though brief—is one of the most cherished parts of the experience.

Once you have practiced the fundamental brush techniques, you may choose your favorite character from a selection of model works created by two professional calligraphers, and begin crafting your own piece. You will also write your name in Japanese characters, and finish your artwork with our original seal. The result is a one-of-a-kind keepsake—an elegant memory of your journey.

As an optional enhancement, you may create your work on a variety of special materials, including hanging scrolls, artisan hand-made washi paper, gold-accented paper, traditional fans, or wooden plaques such as ema and hagoita.

For guests who discover a passion for calligraphy and wish to continue—whether saying, “I could do this all day,” or “I’d love to practice at home”—we also offer carefully selected calligraphy sets for purchase. We invite you to find one that speaks to you and take it home as part of your journey.

While your artwork dries, please relax by the irori hearth and enjoy a tea moment. You will be served traditional Japanese sweets along with your choice of beverage, and have the opportunity to watch a tea ceremony demonstration by the host. If you choose matcha, you will experience an authentic tea gathering.

This is our most recommended program, allowing you to enjoy both calligraphy and the art of tea in a single, memorable experience.

Children are welcome to join:
• Children’s Calligraphy Experience (includes a water writing sheet and a brush as a souvenir, one drink with some Japanese sweets): 5,000 yen
• At least one adult must participate simultaneously.
• Recommended for children up to around 7 years old.
• Please note that the ink used in the adult calligraphy experience is permanent, so extra caution is advised around clothing and other items.

Children’s fees are not displayed on the reservation page. If children are participating, please be sure to enter the number of children in the notes section of the checkout screen. After your reservation is confirmed, we will send you an invoice for the children by email.

２．Sado (Matcha Tea Ceremony) Experience

Immerse yourself in the art of matcha with our tea ceremony experience. This session includes a traditional tea ceremony demonstration, two cups of matcha, and traditional Japanese sweets.

The Experience Flow

Each guest will be provided with a sensu (folding fan) used in the tea ceremony. Holding your fan, you will enter the tea room and begin your experience.

In the art of tea, every movement follows a refined form. For first-time participants, even something as simple as enjoying the sweets may feel unfamiliar—but there is no need for concern. Your host will guide you gently through each step, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience. After the sweets, you will be served a bowl of freshly prepared matcha. Please take this moment to immerse yourself in the beauty of Japanese culture.

After savoring seasonal wagashi and matcha prepared by the host, you will enjoy delicate dry sweets (higashi). Then, it will be your turn to prepare your own tea. Using the bamboo whisk (chasen), whisk briskly and enjoy a bowl of matcha made by your own hands—an experience both rewarding and memorable.

３．Shodo (Calligraphy) Experience

For guests who wish to focus solely on calligraphy, we are pleased to offer a calligraphy-only experience.

The session follows the same flow as our combined calligraphy and tea ceremony experience, with the exception of the tea ceremony, sweets, and beverages.

As a lasting memento, you will take home your own finished piece.

The same optional enhancements are also available. You may choose to create your work on a selection of special materials, including hanging scrolls, artisan hand-made washi paper, gold-accented paper, traditional fans, or wooden plaques such as ema and hagoita.

This experience includes a one-hour calligraphy session and a one-hour tea ceremony session, giving you ample time to immerse yourself in each art form.
