{"id":5548,"date":"2025-12-22T14:07:59","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T05:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oh-mama.tokyo\/?p=5548"},"modified":"2025-12-22T14:08:40","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T05:08:40","slug":"writing-from-the-heart-kokyo-and-wa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oh-mama.tokyo\/?p=5548","title":{"rendered":"Writing from the Heart: Kokyo and Wa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During one of our recent calligraphy experiences, we welcomed a lovely couple who each chose a word close to their heart \u2014 \u201c<em>Kokyo<\/em>\u201d (\u6545\u90f7), meaning hometown, and \u201c<em>Wa<\/em>\u201d (\u548c), meaning harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As they began to write, their brush movements were incredibly careful, as if every single bristle were under perfect control. Watching them work in quiet concentration was truly pleasant and calming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The word \u6545\u90f7 (<em>Kokyo<\/em>) is filled with memories, roots, and a deep sense of belonging. Her calligraphy was especially beautiful, with confident yet gentle strokes that reflected sincerity and care. The other word, \u548c (<em>Wa<\/em>), represents balance, peace, and the spirit of Japan. His writing was equally thoughtful and expressive, capturing the calm strength of the character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seeing them sit side by side, quietly focused on their brushes, was a wonderful reminder of how calligraphy can become a shared moment \u2014 calm, enjoyable, and deeply meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our calligraphy and tea ceremony experiences take place in a real Japanese home in <em>Ikenoue<\/em>, a quiet neighborhood just minutes from Shibuya. Here, guests can slow down and experience Japanese culture in a warm, everyday setting.
