The name literally means \u201cgreat heat,\u201d and it falls during the hottest period of the year. About thirty days have passed since the summer solstice, and the accumulated heat from the sun and the ground makes the air feel almost oven-like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taisho is part of the 24 seasonal divisions of the traditional Japanese calendar. These ancient markers reflect the subtle changes in nature and are still deeply woven into daily life and cultural customs in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have a custom to send \u201c<em>Shochu-mimai<\/em>\u201d (\u6691\u4e2d\u898b\u821e\u3044) \u2014 a summer greeting that expresses care for others\u2019 well-being during this intense heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At our cultural salon Oh!
