This year, they seemed to bloom a little later than usual.

Incidentally, “Satsuki” is also an old Japanese name for the month of May—so it’s quite fitting that these flowers are now at their peak.

As of today, only two days remain in May. This year’s May felt noticeably cooler than usual.
According to data from the Japan Meteorological Agency, in 2024, there were 17 days when the daily high temperature exceeded 25°C (77°F)—a threshold we call “natsubi” or “summer days” in Japan. This year, there have only been 11 such days so far. And with today and tomorrow forecasted to be quite cool, it seems we won’t see any more natsubi this May.

By Japanese standards, a day over 25°C is warm enough that even those sensitive to cold feel comfortable in short sleeves.

As we move into June, Tokyo typically enters its rainy season. The seasonal rain front (baiu zensen) lingers over the area, bringing a mix of cloudy and rainy days. The weather forecast can be quite changeable, and temperatures may range from cool to humid and warm.

Still, there are many ways to enjoy Tokyo in the rainy season. For example, hydrangeas (ajisai) bloom in lovely shades of purple and blue, creating a refreshing scene. The elegant hanashōbu (Japanese iris) also comes into season, displaying its noble purple hues.

Tokyo is also home to countless excellent museums and galleries. You’re sure to find one that suits your taste.

At our place, you can experience unique aspects of Japanese culture indoors, in a traditional Japanese-style house. We’re located just 100 meters from the nearest station—so even on rainy days, it’s easy to visit.

Why not try the art of shodō (Japanese calligraphy) in a quiet tatami room in the heart of the city?
Or enjoy matcha tea with traditional sweets, served with authentic etiquette, as the world’s love for matcha continues to grow.

We welcome solo guests and offer private sessions. Feel free to make a reservation anytime!

[21

post-4583","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-seasonal-stories
["GET
