This is one of our most popular programs, designed to delight a wide range of guests\u2014from first-time visitors to Japan to seasoned enthusiasts with a deep appreciation for Japanese culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Experience Flow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests who wish may begin their experience by putting a jinbei<\/em> on to protect their clothing from any splashes of ink. The calligraphy session takes place in a traditional shoin-style<\/em> tatami room, where we provide tables and chairs for your comfort\u2014so there is no need to worry about sitting on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief introduction to Japanese calligraphy and the writing system, you will prepare your own ink by grinding it on a stone suzuri<\/em>. This quiet, meditative moment\u2014though brief\u2014is one of the most cherished parts of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have practiced the fundamental brush techniques, you may choose your favorite character from a selection of model works created by two professional calligraphers, and begin crafting your own piece. You will also write your name in Japanese characters, and finish your artwork with our original seal. The result is a one-of-a-kind keepsake\u2014an elegant memory of your journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an optional enhancement, you may create your work on a variety of special materials, including hanging scrolls, artisan hand-made washi<\/em> paper, gold-accented paper, traditional fans, or wooden plaques such as ema<\/em> and hagoita<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n

While your artwork dries, please relax by the irori<\/em> hearth and enjoy a tea moment. You will be served traditional Japanese sweets along with your choice of beverage, and have the opportunity to watch a tea ceremony demonstration by the host. If you choose matcha, you will experience an authentic tea gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n

Immerse yourself in the art of matcha with our tea ceremony experience. This session includes a traditional tea ceremony demonstration, two cups of matcha, and traditional Japanese sweets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each guest will be provided with a sensu<\/em> (folding fan) used in the tea ceremony. Holding your fan, you will enter the tea room and begin your experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the art of tea, every movement follows a refined form. For first-time participants, even something as simple as enjoying the sweets may feel unfamiliar\u2014but there is no need for concern. Your host will guide you gently through each step, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience. After the sweets, you will be served a bowl of freshly prepared matcha. Please take this moment to immerse yourself in the beauty of Japanese culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After savoring seasonal wagashi<\/em> and matcha prepared by the host, you will enjoy delicate dry sweets (higashi<\/em>). Then, it will be your turn to prepare your own tea.
